Gov. Phil Murphy Approves $6 Million Appropriation to Expand State’s Flu Vaccination Program

COVID-19 vaccinations for young children now expected to start later:

Gov. Phil Murphy is approving a $6 million appropriation to expand the state’s influenza program.

Vaccinations will include for “influenza-like illness” (ILI) and “influenza” vaccinations for children aged five years to 12 years and adults aged 65 and older.

The funding will cover the first six months of this October.

This follows the governor’s approval of a $7 million appropriation to open the state’s health and wellness registry this month.

The program will include vaccinations for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, meningitis C, tetanus/diphtheria, tetanus/diphtheria/polio, pneumonia, pertussis, rubella, hepatitis A, and influenza.

“We know that all of us face a host of flu and other infectious disease threats at some point in our lives,” Murphy said. “It’s important, therefore, that we make sure that we’re able to detect every single one and protect our community at all times.”

“We know that all of us face a host of flu and other infectious disease threats at some point in our lives.”

Gov. Phil Murphy today announced he will approve a new $6 million appropriation to expand the state’s flu vaccination program for children at five years of age through 12 years of age and adults at age 65 and older. The program will include vaccinations for influenza-like illness and influenza among children and adults.

“Every year, influenza and infectious disease is a significant cause of hospitalization and death among young adults,” said Gov. Phil Murphy. “This new fund will expand our ability to provide better detection and prevention services for young children and adults at risk for these illnesses. Ultimately, this new funding will save lives.”
