Swiatek says she believes, despite the US Open being such a long shot, she can win a third major next week in Texas.
“I have to believe in myself. I’ve seen results before that I thought I was going to win the tournament. I played well (on Monday), I won some matches and I think I can win. This is a very long tournament. I’m not counting the number of matches, I just play well and hopefully I get the win.”
Swiatek, 28, hasn’t won a major since the 2017 Australian Open. She also hasn’t won on clay since the 2015 US Open.
Swiatek has been a consistent top-10 player for years. But in 2018 she lost to No.1 Naomi Osaka in the third round and then suffered a knee injury that curtailed her season after several months of rehab.
