Kilimanjaro Nyong’o: The New Face Of Democratic Leadership In Kenya
Kilimanjaro Nyong’o has been on Kenya’s political radar a lot over the past few years. In 2012 he was nominated for a seat in parliament while in 2014 he was a vocal opponent of the ‘transparency, accountability, participation and ethics’ platform that the ruling Jubilee Government had touted. It’s safe to say he’s become a national celebrity.
Born in Nyeri, Nairobi to a mother who was also a politician, Kilimanjaro was one of only three children. As a young boy he was active in his community. He spent time working on community projects promoting access to education, literacy and micro finance, and was a recipient of Ksh.500,000 from his church. He studied at Jukubaa Primary School, Kenyatta University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1992, before he left Kenya to study at The London School of Economics.
