Sara Menker and Gro Intelligence Are Tackling Global Hunger Through Food
Since a friend of mine, the wife of the cofounder of Gro Intelligence, introduced me to Sara Menker and Co., I knew I was in for a treat.
In my first email with Sara, I explained that I’m trying to tackle global hunger from a new angle. We were chatting for a while, and about 8 weeks later, I received a copy of Sara’s manuscript. And that is how Gro Intelligence came to be.
I was so impressed! I immediately went to bed, and woke up at 10 the next morning and started reading. I couldn’t put the book down. Sara was so inspirational and so down-to-earth, she shared stories of her son, her father, her husband, etc. throughout the book. She shared some stories about what it’s like to be a parent and to have a “scoop on the way,” which was absolutely inspiring and motivating.
As a parent, I feel like my son, at 5 years old, can ask any question and receive the right answer. He’s a genius, and he knows so much. Sara, on the other hand, has to figure things out. The things she had to figure out were what to eat for dinner, what to do for the day, when to have lunch, when to have dinner, etc.
In Sara’s book, it was like she was sharing lessons she learned through a parent’s eyes. I never wanted to put another mom in that position by having a 3 or 4 page, multi-page document in my child’s handwriting. It was a great “life lesson” about being a mom.
I highly recommend this book for parents and for everyone! It’s an inspiring and motivating read and an amazing learning experience.
It’s not just Sara and her son who have that wonderful “life lesson.” Sara is now a mother herself. She shares about life lessons she learned early on and how they’ve led to the creation of Gro Intelligence, which is an organization working to make food more accessible
