Why I Was Not Happy About Trump's National Security Advisor Position

I will never forgive this nation for what happened in Charlottesville. Those who are pushing this blame game and are even worse than the neo-nazi terrorists are not only disgusting but should be put in jail. When I hear the words “hatred and violence” I shudder with disgust and I do not need their help to achieve my ultimate goal of justice.

I will never forgive this nation for what happened in Charlottesville. Those who are pushing this blame game and are even worse than the neo-nazi terrorists are not only disgusting but should be put in jail. When I hear the words “hatred and violence” I shudder with disgust and I do not need their help to achieve my ultimate goal of justice.

President Donald Trump announced his new national security advisor, General John Kelly, on May 24. While his announcement was not surprising, his selection was not. At the time, he was considered an unconventional candidate who would not be easy to understand.

At the time he was announced, there were some questions about him.

Why would a sitting general assume the role of national security advisor?

Why would a general who only served two terms in the Army and one in the Marines be nominated to be the next SecDef?

And while some were concerned about Trump’s temperament, I was concerned a couple of weeks before the election about what they could get from him.

In my mind, I had made it clear to those who supported Trump that I was opposed to many of his positions. He was on the wrong side of history more often than I wanted. In addition to the Muslim ban, which I opposed, I was opposed to the travel ban, which my staff and I supported. And I supported some positions that were considered controversial by others, but in many cases I disagreed with the conclusions.
